Corrections, appeals and takedowns
A record can be wrong, incomplete, or harmful to someone it describes. This is how it gets put right, and how quickly.
Draft — awaiting sign-off
The procedure below is what the site is built to do. The response times and the contact address need CRRIC’s confirmation before launch.
1. Ask for a correction
Write to us through the contact pagewith the record’s web address and what is wrong. A reviewer checks the record against its sources within five working days. If the record is wrong it is corrected; the previous version is kept in the record’s revision history and the record shows a new “last reviewed” date.
2. Dispute a record
If you contest material facts and the sources do not settle it, the record is marked Disputed — the evidence level is shown wherever the record appears — and stays that way until further evidence resolves it either way.
3. Ask for withdrawal or takedown
A record is withdrawn and marked Removed / Withdrawn when it identifies a private individual, publishes something unsafe, rests on a retracted source, or was published in error. A takedown request on safety or privacy grounds is actioned within two working days while it is assessed; the record stays down if the concern is upheld. We do not need the requester to prove the incident did not happen.
4. Appeal
If you disagree with the outcome you may ask for a second review by a different editor, and if that still does not resolve it, by CRRIC’s advisory network. You will be told the outcome in writing.
What is never published
- Reporter names, contact details or uploaded evidence files.
- Private individuals named as offenders, criminals or extremists on the basis of an unverified accusation.
- Precise locations, private homes or images of victims.
Retention
Public reports that are not published are kept for review for up to twelve months, after which contact details and files are deleted. Published records are kept, with their revision history, for as long as the Observatory operates. Access to the editorial system is logged.
